Flexible Power Systems attended the inaugural Motor Trader Commercial Industry Awards in April 2025 and we were thrilled to be the winners of the ‘Innovation in Refrigeration’ category. 

The award recognises the innovation, application to carbon savings and scalability of our intelligent 32 amp “smart plug”– capable of metering, load control, and two-way communications. The “smart plug” integrates via FPS TRU Manager into FPS’ e-fleet management platform, FPS Operate, which is integrated into a range of metering and logistics software systems, facilitating automated load control and monitoring. 

This technology innovation results in TRUs being able to be controlled remotely to mitigate power peaks, elimination of up to 10% of total fleet fuel use and reduction in overall carbon and particulate emissions whilst improving air quality in depots, together with avoidance of expensive grid connections and potential multi-year project delay. FPS Operate and the TRU smart plug are designed to work with either conventional diesel TRUs or emerging battery-powered solutions, ensuring future scalability and sustainability.

The system is poised to play a critical role in automating battery charging and managing energy-intensive operations like multi-drop deliveries in high ambient temperatures.
